Crawley trad in 2024-2025 toe tot het NEA-programma als Senior Research Fellow bij het NIMH en als gastonderzoeker bij het NIOD. Voordat hij bij UNSW Canberra werkte, hij historicus bij het Australian War Memorial (2016-2023) en academicus aan de Australian National University (2010-2016), waar hij hoofdonderzoeker en coauteur was van de Official History of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation en coauteur van deel 1 van de Official History of Australian Peacekeeping, Humanitarian, and Post-Cold War Operations.
